כל ישראל ערבים זה לזה
About Areivim UK
Areivim exists so that the loss of a parent is never compounded by the loss of a child’s future. This is what we do, and the idea that holds it together.
The principle
The Hebrew word areivim means guarantors. The teaching “כל ישראל ערבים זה לזה” — all of Israel are guarantors for one another — is the moral foundation of the community. Areivim UK gives that idea a structure: thousands of families who have each agreed to stand behind every other family.
When one family suffers the loss of a parent, the obligation does not fall on them. It falls on all of us, together — and is light because it is shared so widely.
What members provide
£40,000 towards the wedding of each unmarried child, and a further £40,000 for the surviving parent.
Every unmarried orphaned child receives ongoing monthly support of £600 — real cash flow, when it is needed most.
Enrolment is free and there is no regular fee — members are only collected from when a tragedy occurs (£8 per orphan, capped at £40 a month).
How it is funded
Areivim holds no investment fund and takes no profit, and there is no monthly fee — members are only collected from when a tragedy occurs. In each year, the community simply covers what is needed for the families who have suffered a loss. Three things keep it sustainable.
Risk spread across thousands of families means any single year’s losses translate to a small share per household.
New members are typically young, which keeps the average age — and therefore the estimated cost — from rising too fast.
We project the cost decades ahead and publish the method, so the community can see the programme is built to last.
